Caryl Oliver is one of Australia's pre-eminent authorities on how technology is changing the training and learning environment. In a highly individual, entertaining and inspirational presentation style she introduces audiences to new ways of delivering training and learning, using technology that is user-friendly for both the techno-savvy and the nervous ‘Neo-Nerd’. A self-confessed ‘tech-head’, Caryl Oliver understands that not everyone else has the same nose-bleed 'early adopter' tendencies that she possesses. To de-mystify everything that is online, wireless and next-generation, she has developed simple techniques to help others take their first steps this direction. The healthy view is to remember that technology is merely a tool, and Caryl is able to help people identify the right tool for the job they want it to do – without all the complications! caryloliver.com provides services to those who would like to embrace mobile and new technology for learning, but who may not know where to start. She also advises industry, individuals and educators on the small steps that will help them better manage a world in which technology dominates. Caryl has extensive industry and consulting experience, which enables her to relate to audiences from a wide range of education, professional and industry sectors. In London's Advertising world, she worked on accounts ranging from Gordon’s Gin to the launch of Concorde for British Airways. She ran her own business in the Australian tourism industry for 18 years, during which time she also represented the industry at State and Federal government level through her involvement with Tourism Council of Australia. Caryl designed and created an early online accommodation inventory and booking management system for her business, from which the explosion of online booking services developed. She was invited to join the Executive of the State Training Board and Chaired a Course Advisory Committee at RMIT. In 2001 Caryl moved into Vocational Training, allowing her to blend her passion for both education and technology. Awarded a Flexible Learning Leader Scholarship in 2004, Caryl researched the then new phenomenon of mobile learning - an area in which she has now become a recognised leader. She is a founding director of the International Association for Mobile Learning. Fundamental to this leadership is an understanding of current mobile devices on which learning may be delivered, and an excellent grasp on new and emerging technology that impacts on learners of all ages. Caryl has represented Australia as a world-class fencer, and has recently returned to the sport she loves. In 2008 she competed in France representing Australia at the Veteran World Championships. She now has a World Ranking of 24. Some useful sites associated with Caryl: www.caryloliver.com www.digitalstorytellingworld.com http://caryloliver.mobi www.elearningworld.net
